Helping homeowners tackle tough exterior projects

Habitat for Humanity Greater Salt Lake Area's Brush with Kindness is a volunteer-based program that helps low-income homeowners who, because of age, disability, and family circumstances, are unable to address maintenance and repair issues. Homeowners in Salt Lake, Tooele, and Davis Counties are eligible to apply.

Sponsoring a Brush with Kindness project is a great way to give back to the community while enjoying a fun and engaging day of team building. Participants frequently tell us their team members bonded in a new way, improving communication and collaboration.  While on the program site, volunteers must figure out the best way to tackle tasks, honing their cooperation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Volunteers often learn new tricks to help them maintain their own homes.

Brush with Kindness sponsorships are $3,000 to $5,000 per day for up to 15 people. Lunch and a T-shirt are included. You don't need any tools or special knowledge. We provide everything and can accommodate people of all abilities.

Our latest Brush with Kindness project, October 2024

Volunteers are transforming the yard of Ruby, a local senior in need.

Together, volunteers have cleared 50 large branches and filled 24 eighty-gallon bags with yard waste, making a big difference for Ruby. She has been unable to tend to her yard herself, and maintenance needs snowballed. In addition to tidying up the yard, our amazing volunteers helped build custom doors for Ruby’s shed, which had been exposed to the elements. They also removed weeds, cleaned up her garden, and installed new siding and roof shingles on the shed.  It took hours of hard work and dedication, and we are incredibly grateful to the corporations that sponsored Brush with Kindness days, making Ruby feel safe and cared for.
